The 'Outstanding ESG Enterprises Recognition Ceremony and Sustainable Development Forum 2023,' jointly organized by Sing Tao News Corporation Limited (Sing Tao) and the Center for Economic Sustainability and Entrepreneurial Finance (CESEF) of the School of Accounting and Finance at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, was held on November 13 at the Holiday Inn Golden Mile Hong Kong in Tsim Sha Tsui.

The event awarded over 30 prizes, including the 'Prestigious ESG Accomplishment of the Year,' 'Outstanding ESG Environmental/Social/Corporate Governance Performance Awards,' and 'ESG Commendation Awards,' recognizing 21 companies in sectors such as real estate, banking and finance, public affairs, and property management for their implementation of ESG.

All awards were selected through a rigorous and professional evaluation process by ESG authorities and leaders from various sectors. Additionally, Sing Tao established a public voting system to identify the organization most capable of implementing ESG. Professional evaluation and public voting accounted for 70% and 30% of the decision-making process, respectively, aiming to increase public participation and foster a positive ESG environment.

The "Outstanding ESG Enterprises Recognition Scheme" 2023 is jointly organized by Sing Tao News Corporation Limited (Sing Tao) and the Center for Economic Sustainability and Entrepreneurial Finance (CESEF), School of Accounting and Finance, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. It aims to promote the concept of ESG and enhance public awareness of ESG across different sectors of society, as well as to facilitate its application in daily life.

As the world moves towards low-carbon and sustainable development, ESG has become an issue of concern to the community, given the fact that Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing requires rigorous ESG reporting by all listed issuers, making ESG a critical issue of concern across various sectors of society. As a global media organization, Sing Tao has actively supported the development of ESG over the years. In May 2023, the Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Center for Economic Sustainability and Entrepreneurial Finance at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, hoping to promote academic and industry exchange and the integration in the ESG field through the professional knowledge and experience of CESEF, as well as its academic credibility.

Sing Tao will appoint authoritative ESG experts and leaders from various sectors as judges to evaluating their performance in the three major areas of environment, social, and corporate governance. Together, they will recognize outstanding enterprises that uphold the principles of ESG, and providing professional advice to participating companies. thereby promoting the development of green finance in the industry, creating a favorable investment climate, and raising public awareness of the importance of ESG in social sustainability.

The School of Accounting and Finance of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

The School of Accounting and Finance (AF) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is the first local tertiary education institution that offers honours degree programme in accountancy. It has nurtured scores of professionals in Hong Kong since the 1960s. Faculty members bring a great wealth of teaching and research experience to AF and have transferred interdisciplinary knowledge across areas such as accounting, finance, economics and law for decades. AF endeavours to fulfil PolyU’s "Opening Minds • Shaping the Future" pledge. Placing equal emphases on research and practice, AF provides students with both professional knowledge and internship opportunities. According to EduRank, AF ranked second in accounting and third in finance in Hong Kong. Both subjects also ranked fourth in Asia.

Established in 2015, the Center for Economic Sustainability and Entrepreneurial Finance (CESEF) endeavours to encourage economic growth by promoting sustainability among local enterprises. CESEF develops partnerships with various industries through knowledge transfer, and put environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and green finance into practice. With global and professional perspectives, CESEF Director Professor Nancy Su and her team have continuously achieved remarkable results and contributed to topics such as sustainable economy and entrepreneurship. Various CESEF projects are supported by grants from the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau, enabling the Center to offer industry professionals advice on ESG and green finance.

About the Scheme

"Outstanding ESG Enterprises Recognition Scheme" 2023 includes: “Prestigious ESG Accomplishment of the Year”, “Outstanding ESG Environmental/ Social/ Corporate Governance Performance Awards” and "ESG Commendation Awards”.

All Commendation and awards are subject to professional evaluation by Sing Tao News Corporation Limited and the Centre for Sustainable Economy and Entrepreneurship Finance (CESEF) of the School of Accounting and Finance at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, to ensure that the awarded companies have met the criteria for ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management policies and performance. CESEF also provides professional comments and suggestions on the ESG performance of all participating companies, with the aim of further improving the ESG levels of all companies.

Outstanding ESG Enterprises Recognition Ceremony and Sustainable Development Forum will be held on 13 November, at Holiday Inn Golden Mile Hong Kong in Tsim Sha Tsui. In addition to honoring the award recipients, industry leaders will be invited to join a panel discussion and share their insights on the topic of “Living with Earth - How Enterprises Implement ESG to Practice Innovative Sustainability”. Furthermore, the organizers will hold "ESG Professional Training" from November to December to provide comprehensive and diverse ESG application strategies for participating companies.

In addition, the awarded companies will also have the opportunity to participate in the " ESG Training Seminars " activities organized by the university. These activities provide comprehensive and diverse ESG application strategies to participating companies, to assist businesses in implementing sustainable development through ESG practices.

Eligibility Criteria:

The Awards is open for application by companies listed on Main Board in the HKEX, or non-listing companies (each “Applicant”).
